Diablo 3 May Well Appeal To The Masses

By Daniel R Woodrow

It is common to find that big video game releases generate a lot of hype and excitement amongst the gaming community, and this is certainly true with the upcoming Diablo 3 release next month. It seems that everyone is keeping a firm eye on this release date.

People have been waiting for this game to be released for not just months, but years. To put it into context, the first game in the Diablo franchise was released back in 1996, with Diablo 2 coming out four years later in 2000.

They were very well received and won numerous awards at the time. Since then there has been a 12 year gap between the last game and this eagerly anticipated new game.

It is easy to see, therefore, why so many people are delighted that Diablo 3 is now just weeks away from being released. There have been so many rumours in recent years that this game is finally going to be developed and released, but we now have an official Diablo 3 release date to end all the speculation.

My own view is that this game is going to be a bit different from a lot of the other games that you can buy because it will have a mass appeal. The younger generation will love it and many of the older generation should enjoy playing this game as well.

There are a few reasons why I make this claim. To begin with, this is going to be a role playing game and I think everyone knows that these type of games appeal to the older gamers as well because of their challenging nature.

There is also the fact that many of these older people will have bought the original games when they were released between 1996 and 2000. So although their lives may have moved on since then, there may be a part of them that wants to try out this new game and see if it is as good as the original games.

The fact that you can play a multiplayer game will also encourage many adults to buy this game because this adds a whole new dimension. Many people like playing these games against their friends, even if they are now in their thirties.

I am in my mid thirties myself and I have to confess I still like playing computer games, even though I don't play them as much as when I was younger. There is nothing wrong with taking a few hours out of your busy schedule to relax and have fun playing some of these games.

I am all too aware that playing computer games at this age is quite uncool. However thousands of people still do, even though they don't like to admit it to anyone else. I think part of the reason for this is because today's games also much more advanced than they used to be, and therefore still highly enjoyable.

Anyway going back to the original topic, I'm convinced that Diablo 3 is going to be very popular with both the younger and older generations. Quite a few adults will buy this game just so they can play it themselves and relive their childhood. They may even buy it for their children so they can have a go themselves.

This game could turn out to be a complete dud, and a poor update in comparison to the original two games. However the preview videos to show it in a positive light, and hopefully it will turn out to be one of the best games of 2012.
