Role Playing Game And MMORPG Space Game Varieties

By Magdalen P. Oga

Gaming studios that have worked extensively on both space game RPG's and MMORPG's are seeing lots of benefits since these games have exploded in popularity in recent years. Role playing games, or RPG's to keep it brief, are essentially based off of older games like Dungeons and Dragons but with additional twists and elements of their digital media. Space games and other RPG's, though, have recently experienced a considerable change in platform; many are now played on the Internet. The manner in which players interact with each other has been forever altered with the advent of MMORPG's, also called massively multiplayer online games. What distinctions can be drawn between MMORPG's and their one player RPG counterparts?

Both RPG's and MMORPG's in the space game genre keep true to role playing essentials such as leveling up a character to progress through the game, character customization, and item looting. But most single player, console RPG's hold to a much more linear story line that does not allow for a lot of personal adaptation by players. You cannot make any changes to the plot of the game because the dialogue and events are already programmed into the game and cannot be altered.

The experience of gaming and the possibilities of what you can do with your character are both quite different when your space game is set in an Online world where other gamers can interact with you. Developers are constantly making changes to the layout of the game and teaming up with other players also gives you a chance to explore areas you could not if you were alone. These games really feel like you are playing the role of your character because, instead of teaming up with predictable computer characters, you are working together with real people. Despite the fact that online games still have a general plot line to them, this is much less rigid than in traditional console games and gives you room to make your own decisions for your character.

The grand majority of role playing games for normal gaming consoles have been one player games with no multiplayer support or modes. The social element of playing along with lots of other MMORPG gamers is very exciting.

Though they are different in a few ways, space game MMORPG's and RPG's are both popular. An exciting game that combines role playing elements with an Web based social aspect can bring you countless hours of fun.
